Chapter 146
Remember when you said you would find time to GTFO? YOU DID IT! You are somewhere else, almost to where you are going. Well, between somewheres and there is complimentary breakfast here, which you always hope will include a compliment or two, but never does.
Instead, a fellow guest tries to read you for the quantity of everything offered that you are shoving into the (surprisingly large) pockets of your dress. Although you owe no explanation, just as he did not need to share his opinion, remind him that it is, by definition, a place to grab things and then go, which you are doing for yourself and another person. This seems to mollify him, but also makes him wonder if you are a lesbian because you were not friendly and mentioned bringing a “her” breakfast.
Do not care. You didn’t care what he thought before and you will not care again by the time you stuff one more danish into your bra because your pockets are full.
You normally would not care, but you have extra fucks not to give today because you are traveling with a best friend in a car together and you are allowed to sing along to songs and share foods and you could stop the car just to get out and hug whenever you want a hug, as many times as you want to hug.
Somewhat full parking lots are still alarming to you and you did panic a little when you saw tour buses and many cars parked in the hotel lot as you pulled up at 11pm, 680miles away from home. But then your best friend reminded you that those people would not be staying in your hotel room with you, so you relaxed… a little.
You slept in a big bed on sheets you will not have to launder and shoved all the tiny bathroom bottles into your purse because you can’t just leave them there! You tried to stay up late, giggling together about all the things you have missed giggling about, but eventually, you both began snoring in harmony.
Now you are slurping down hotel yogurts and eating the packaged hotel danishes while guzzling both cups of coffee you smuggled away from the judgmental man and the lobby littered with people mostly wearing masks.
This is not the best breakfast that you have ever had, but you have never been so happy to have such a bad breakfast. The road still lies before you and there are so many more hugs along the way.
